A Trip to Bergen

Bergen, Norway

Bergen is the largest city in Norway and the seventh largest in the world. It’s a city of handicrafts, architectural masterpieces, and famous fjords. Bergen is a university city: there are several universities located here. The city is a flat city, surrounded by hills. An unusual feature of Bergen is the continuous flow of the river Yggis. This river runs through the city and affects its health and dwelling prices.

The River Yggis is located in the center of the city. It’s a small mountain, only 2 kilometers long and 1 meter wide. The mountain has been growing up for centuries, and the underground part of it is now completely above the surface. This mountain has cold winds that blow down from above. The top of the mountain looks like a yellow sky, and the lowermost part is called the tongue. A surprising thing about the mountain is that it looks just like a tongue, actually it is a huge crater.

Bergen Zoo is a big attraction in the city. A ticket costs US$ 30 and is for an adults-only fee. Zoo is located at the outskirts of the city, there are no roads leading to it. When a person is walking towards the zoo gate, he will find a road that goes towards the Taumadres (the open air museum).

The Zoo is considered to be one of the biggest zoos in the world. It has a surface area of 14 hectares. You can find about zones here. They are placed in a horseshoe shape, surrounding a central occupant pool. 2 huge sharks, living in a diving tank, separated by a thousand meters.

Bergen Aquarium is situated on the right side of the harbor. It was opened in 1977. Thanks to that fact and its business valuation, the harbor is always in a good condition. It has a surface area of 30 hectares, and it provides the habitat for 4,000 sea life. The worth mentioning is the rock pool, covered by a half-meter deep tunnel.

Helsingor Viking Castle is located on the north side of the island. The castle was built in 930, but it was abandoned in the 13th century. There were some people who tried to rebuild the castle, but the 610 years soon passed. Now it’s a wildlife park and a great place for curious visitors.

Helsingor Ice Hotel ( voices and music – 2km walkway above the sea) is the largest hotel of the biggest natural ice cave in Europe, covering 10 hectares. Tourists are offered the opportunity to enter the heart of the ice hotel and observe the state of the cave, while enjoying the unique international cuisine and staying in an air-conditioned hotel.

The biggest tourist attraction of Bergen is the islands of the famous E coast. Tourists arrive to the island by ship from Bergen, and then go ashore to the small peninsula of Finmark. There they find a 3 kilometer long sandy beach, which is generally uncrowded. On the southern part of the island, there are villages, campsites and hotels. Tourists often take a walk to the ruins of the ancient village of Hovedoya, located on the most southern point of the island.
